Putin and Abe did not hide anything from each other and did not agree
Negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe took place “in a positive spirit,” but no concrete decisions were made.
The Russian president told reporters about this today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Long-term painstaking work lies ahead to create conditions for reaching mutually acceptable solutions. The solution that the negotiators propose must be acceptable to the peoples of Russia and Japan and supported by the public of both our countries. We agreed to continue efforts to organize joint economic activities on the southern Kuril Islands in five previously approved areas: aquaculture, the creation of greenhouse farming, wind energy, tourism and waste treatment, that is, solving environmental issues,” Putin said.
According to Abe, they discussed the issue of a peace treaty “without hiding anything from each other.”
“The problem remains unsolved more than 70 years after the end of the war. It's not easy, but we have to solve it. Under President Putin's and my strong leadership, we must vigorously work together to further build trust in relations between Japanese citizens and Russian citizens,” Abe said.
