Putin and Erdogan celebrate the completion of a gas pipeline bypassing Ukraine
Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a ceremony today in Istanbul to complete the construction of the offshore section of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline, which will supply Russian fuel along a new route - bypassing Ukraine.
“The offshore portion of this project has been completed today. Two pipelines are running in parallel. These two gas pipelines are 930 kilometers long and run more than 2 kilometers underwater. Kiyiköy is the point where the construction of a gas receiving terminal is currently continuing at a very rapid pace. 31 billion cubic meters of natural gas are expected to be transported through the pipeline per year... From the point of view of the entire region, this flow provides many advantages. And we plan to transport at least half of the natural gas that will go through this gas pipeline to the European Union,” Erdogan said.
“The laying of the land part of the Turkish Stream is ahead.” We expect that this work will be carried out at the same rapid pace in order to launch the gas pipeline, as planned, before the end of 2019,” Putin announced, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the Russian leader, the start of the Turkish Stream “will become an important factor in ensuring pan-European energy security.”
The President of the Russian Federation also recalled that Russian specialists in Turkey will launch the first nuclear power plant, Akkuyu.
