Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel agreed during a telephone conversation to meet in the Normandy format due to the worsening situation in Donbass.

Putin and Merkel, according to the press service, agreed to increase diplomatic efforts due to the escalation of the conflict in Donbass.
“In particular, it is intended to provide for contacts in the near future between foreign ministers, as well as assistant leaders, in the Normandy format, after which it is proposed to discuss the situation at the highest level,” the statement says.
Vladimir Putin, in a conversation with Angela Merkel, added that, according to OSCE data, the situation in eastern Ukraine has worsened due to the fault of Kyiv.
“There is a clear desire of the Kyiv authorities to disrupt the implementation of the Minsk agreements, as well as to use the Normandy format to cover up their destructive steps,” the Kremlin explained.
