“The Russian leader once again congratulated his interlocutor on his victory in the presidential elections, wished him success in implementing the election program and noted his readiness to build a partnership dialogue with the new administration on the principles of equality, mutual respect and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs.
During the conversation, V. Putin and D. Trump not only agreed on the current extremely unsatisfactory state of Russian-American relations, but also spoke out in favor of active joint work to normalize them and bring them into the mainstream of constructive interaction on a wide range of issues. In particular, the importance of creating a reliable basis for bilateral relations through the development of their trade and economic component was emphasized.
It was noted that next year marks the 210th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and the United States, which in itself should stimulate a return to pragmatic, mutually beneficial cooperation that would meet the interests of the two countries, stability and security throughout the world.
V. Putin and D. Trump shared the opinion on the need to join forces in the fight against common enemy number one - international terrorism and extremism. Issues of resolving the crisis in Syria were also discussed in this vein.
It was agreed to continue contacts by telephone and in the future to envisage a personal meeting, the preparation of which will be carried out by representatives of both sides,” reads a message on the official website of the President of the Russian Federation.
