Putin: Hackers are free people, like artists
Russian hackers could carry out attacks on other countries to protect Russia, motivated by patriotic feelings. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this today, answering a question from a German journalist.

“Hackers can come out from anywhere – from any country in the world. The general background of interstate relations matters. Because hackers are free people, like artists. They are in a good mood, they got up in the morning and are painting pictures. So are hackers. They woke up, read that something is happening in interstate relations, if they have patriotic sentiments, they begin to make their contribution, as they consider correct, to the fight against those who speak badly about Russia,” Putin said.
At the same time, the president emphasized that Russia does not engage in hacking at the state level, but, on the contrary, fights it. He also suggested that someone is deliberately building the chain in such a way as to present the territory of the Russian Federation as the source of the attack.
“But I am deeply convinced that no hackers will be able to influence the course of an election campaign in a foreign country. No information will affect the consciousness of the people and will not change the final result in any country, neither in Europe, nor in Asia, nor in America,” Putin concluded.
