The president stated this in an interview with the “Sunday Time” program on Channel One.
“We need to immediately begin substantive, meaningful negotiations, and not on technical issues, but on issues of political organization of society and statehood in the southeast of Ukraine in order to unconditionally ensure the legitimate interests of the people who live there,” the Russian president said, as quoted by his TV channel "Rain".
In addition, Putin noted that in the southeast of Ukraine it is necessary to “stop hostilities immediately and begin to restore the infrastructure.”
“If someone expects that a situation in which cities and towns in the south-east of Ukraine will be shot at by direct fire, and that the militias themselves will not react to this in any way, but will only wait for the promised negotiations, then these people are in captivity of some kind.” then illusions,” the Russian president emphasized.
Putin also advised Western countries to think about what European democratic values are, in connection with the support that the West provides to the Ukrainian authorities.
“Supporting a coup d'etat, armed seizure of power and suppression of dissent with the help of the armed forces. Are these modern European values? And it seems to me that our colleagues need to be reminded of this. About their own ideals,” he concluded.
As Navigator reported, earlier the President of Ukraine stated that peace negotiations and the work of the trilateral contact group on issues of South-East Ukraine would be resumed from the beginning of September.
