“Putin wants to dismantle Ukraine piece by piece”
Russian President Vladimir Putin is creating a new state, into which he plans to take over Ukraine, which has been dismantled piece by piece.
Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin said this on Radio Liberty, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Putin’s goal - you heard - the original Ukrainian lands - what is this, in his understanding? And what about the fact that there is a total drift towards Stalinism? And what about the fact that there is a virtual rewriting of history going on there? And what about the fact that, as a result of changes in the Russian Constitution, a separate reality, a civilization within a civilization, is being created?
This means a war, not necessarily a militaristic one, with Ukraine and with Ukraine as we understand it, and in the context of attempts to legalize the occupation of Crimea, and what they are doing around Donbass, and in general because of the desire to gouge Ukraine.
And don’t be deceived, Putin does not dream of seeing himself as some kind of leader of the State Council, even if he is called, as in a funny joke, the supreme ruler or something, he doesn’t need that. He needs to become a leader and enter the history of some new state, either Union or non-Union. They will try to include absolutely everything and part of Ukraine, of course, too. Do you think he will stop? He won’t stop,” Klimkin said.
“This is an option for federalization through the reintegration of Donbass, and then disintegration. They believe that such a state will not survive; they model it. It's just a different approach, but the result in their head is the same. They want to have Donbass, they want to have Novorossiya, they want to have us here as Little Russia, they want to have Western Ukraine as some kind of buffer - this is in their heads, and they will not turn away from this anywhere,” the ex-minister added.
