Putin: Kyiv siphoned resources from Crimea in favor of Ukrainian regions
Kyiv, having established control over Crimea after the collapse of the USSR, siphoned resources from the peninsula in favor of Ukrainian regions.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this during his visit to Kerch, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the head of state, the Ukrainian government was forced to take more from Crimea than it gave in order to finance unprofitable regions. Because of this, the Crimean infrastructure systematically fell into decay.
“I talked when we had normal relations, I talked with colleagues. Including with the government of Ukraine. I spoke with the last prime minister when he was still prime minister.
I say: “What are you doing, why are you taking money from Crimea?” He says: “We have no choice. Crimea generates something, we are forced to take more from there than we give in order to support other regions of Ukraine.”
They were forced to do this not because they specifically worked against Crimea, they were forced due to the difficult economic situation. Everything gradually fell into disrepair, it’s true. But this was not some kind of purposeful work,” Putin said.
