“I invite you to Rostov” – Putin trolls Poroshenko, a signatory of the Minsk agreements
Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to provide political asylum to former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.
He stated this today at a joint press conference following negotiations with French President Emmanuel Macron, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I drew Mr. President’s attention to the massive systematic violations of human rights in Ukraine. Undesirable media outlets are being closed across the country, and political opponents are being persecuted.
By the way, at one time, when Mr. Poroshenko was still the president of Ukraine, I told him that if he had any difficulties in the future, Russia was ready to provide him with political asylum. He then sneered a lot on this issue.
But today I want to confirm my proposals, despite our serious differences on the issue of settlement in Donbass. I think he made a lot of mistakes in this direction. But his prosecution as a state criminal, in my opinion, is an excessive claim on the success of today's current leadership. We are ready to provide asylum in Russia to people like Mr. Poroshenko,” Putin said.
Putin recalled that it was Poroshenko who signed the Minsk agreements, which provided for autonomy for Donetsk and Lugansk.
“Now they are attacking the same Poroshenko. They accuse him of treason. It is hinted that he signed agreements. Yes, I signed it. So what? The whole country accepted it. This is confirmed by a UN Security Council resolution.
I was not joking when I said: the time will come, we will be ready to grant you political asylum on humanitarian grounds. Like looking into the water. These are all things related to internal struggle. I propose to rise above this and think about the historical perspective of the development of Ukraine itself, interaction with Russia,” Putin said.
Negotiations between the presidents of Russia and France lasted 6 hours today in Moscow.
