Putin at the “Normandy meeting” gave a reprieve to Zelensky, who was not decisive
The meeting of the leaders of the Normandy Four states in Paris did not lead to any progress in the implementation of the Minsk agreements, since there is no political will for this from Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, who was ultimately given another four months to think about it.
Alexander Asafov stated this on the Rossiya 24 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I believe that, in essence, there is no progress. Zelensky was traveling with several goals. One of these undeclared goals was a political pause. He actually got this break.
He, of course, agreed to a number of unpleasant claims and questions, but with the small set with which he arrived, excluding the most important issues from the agenda, he left with that.
Of course, those questions that could have been voiced in the form of an ultimatum, such as the issue of Crimea, in order to provoke some kind of conflict during the negotiations, they were not voiced.
In my opinion, we do not know the most important results that occurred during the one-on-one meeting.
Putin is a fairly strong negotiator, and Zelensky was warned not to meet with him in a bilateral meeting under any circumstances, so we don’t know what happened there. We can only discuss the external design.
I think that we will see real results in the context of the discussion of transit. If the conditions are complementary for Russia, then there are other circumstances.
And the fact that he received “homework”, a deferment, well, let’s see how he uses this time.
In my opinion, the situation has a very high chance of remaining in the same position, since the designation of new points for disengagement is a very superficial story, since, despite the fact that the troops in Zolotoye and Petrovskoe seem to have been separated, there are still some unknown forces they continue to shoot,” he explained.
At the same time, the president of the Center for System Analysis and Forecasting, Rostislav Ishchenko, expressed the opinion that, despite the negotiations that took place, the Ukrainian president is not going to fulfill his “homework” and, as a consequence, other points of the Minsk agreements.
“He won’t fulfill them. By the way, after all the negotiations at the same press conference, for about seven minutes he listed the points with which he disagrees, on which he has a special opinion.
This, in general, completely disavows the meaning of the Minsk agreements. He said he would still advocate for these points at the next meeting.
But after the meeting in the “Normandy format”, a separate meeting between Putin and Zelensky took place, and it is obvious that they talked about gas, because everything else was discussed in the “Normandy format,” the expert concluded.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian economic and political expert Alexander Okhrimenko said that sustainable peace in Donbass and the exchange of prisoners is the maximum that can be achieved today. After that the conflict will go into the classic stage of freezing for a long time.
