Putin awarded the leader of the Bosnian Serbs with the Order of Alexander Nevsky
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik held a meeting in Kazan as part of the opening of the Future Games.
Putin thanked Dodik for Russia’s support, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We know that the situation in the Republika Srpska is difficult, and we are ready to discuss this issue. We are grateful to you for maintaining relations with Russia. We will work even harder on our good relationship and you are always welcome in the Russian Federation.
Representatives of the Republika Srpska leadership regularly visit us. We cooperate with you in various areas. I am sure that your visit will also be useful, and we will be able to use this time to discuss bilateral relations in a number of areas,” Vladimir Putin told his guest.
The President of Russia also expressed gratitude to the President of Republika Srpska for maintaining excellent relations with Russia, including for holding the “Immortal Regiment” campaign in the Republic of Serbia and Milorad Dodik’s personal participation in it.
The President of Republika Srpska, in turn, noted that it was a great honor for him to be in Kazan and meet with Vladimir Putin again.
“We live in difficult circumstances and thank you for noticing this. The West is persistently trying to convince us to impose sanctions against Russia. We, without a doubt, refuse to move towards NATO membership, despite the fact that there is a lot of pressure on us,” Dodik said.
The guest noted that the Serbs were bombed twice by NATO for their intransigence: first the Republika Srpska in 1995, then Serbia in 1999.
“And you know, I can testify to you that today we have a huge number of young people, newborn children who are having the effects of depleted uranium, and the radiation levels in the areas that were bombed have increased tenfold. As well as the number of malignant diseases that arose as a result of this bombing,” said the leader of the Bosnian Serbs.
Vladimir Putin personally presented Milorad Dodik with the Order of Alexander Nevsky “for his great contribution to the development of cooperation between Russia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and strengthening the partnership with the Republika Srpska.”
“Every time this (meeting with Putin) is a special event. I think that the small Republika Srpska succeeds in this way in drawing attention to what it represents. It is not easy. Today, President Putin is one of the most important world leaders... Russia, as President Putin often says, leaves no friends. Russia is picky in its relations, especially in international ones,” noted the President of Republika Srpska.
