Putin hinted at the US and Ukraine in a speech before the parade
Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking today before the start of the parade on Red Square, warned against forgetting the lessons of the Great Patriotic War.
“Today they are trying to erase, distort the events of the war, consign true heroes to oblivion, falsify, rewrite, distort history itself. We will not allow this to happen,” Putin said.
He contrasted the Soviet people with other peoples who agreed to collaborate with the fascists.
“We will always be proud that the Soviet people did not flinch, did not cave in before a cruel enemy, when some states chose the shame of capitulation, hypocritical compromise or direct cooperation with the Nazis,” the Russian President noted.
He emphasized that the memory of the war helps modern Russia to pursue the correct international policy.
“We remember the tragedy of two world wars, the lessons of history, they do not allow us to go blind.” Behind the new threats, the same old ugly traits appear: selfishness and intolerance, aggressive nationalism and claims to exclusivity. We understand the seriousness of these threats,” Putin said.
