Putin found the West's pain points on the issue of Ukraine
Kyiv, February 03 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Raichenko) – The West is being held back from a tougher anti-Russian position by its unwillingness to enter into a military confrontation with the Russian Federation and the serious pro-Kremlin lobby in the EU.
Moscow opposition political strategist Stanislav Belkovsky said this in an interview with the Kyiv weekly Focus, answering the question of why the West is refusing direct military support for Ukraine.

“The West is very heterogeneous,” the political strategist points out. – After all, there are significant groups supporting Putin, especially in Europe. First, there is the southern front of Europe, led by Italy, which advocates easing sanctions and establishing contacts with Putin. France partly shares this position. We see today from the situation in PACE that the representation of Putin’s supporters there is quite large. In fact, Barack Obama and Angela Merkel take the strongest possible anti-Putin positions and believe that it is responsible to negotiate with the next Russian government. But they have many opponents."
In addition, Belkovsky says, there are a number of significant restrictions that make a more radical anti-Russian approach virtually impossible.
“Under no circumstances can the West go to war with Russia,” the publication’s interlocutor is convinced. “This option is excluded, which is what is holding back the United States and Germany.”
