The Ukrainian military personnel and volunteers complain that positions of anti-terrorist operation forces are massively attacked by rodents.

About it says the material of Radio Liberty.
According to information, an exacerbation of this problem has occurred in the last three months.
“At first the mice appeared in small flocks, then in larger numbers, now there are billions of them! None of us have ever seen anything like this,” said volunteer Yuri Misyagin.
In an hour, one of the fighters managed to fill several buckets of mice.
“There are several reasons for this population explosion. Firstly, the sown fields were not cleared last year, and the rodents had a lot of food. Secondly, the fighting disturbed the predators who regulate the number of mice - owls and foxes, and they left these places,” explains biologist, senior researcher at the National Scientific and Natural History Museum of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Igor Zagorodnyuk.
According to him, in such conditions, mice reproduce quickly - up to 10 mice in a litter every two to three weeks. They have already eaten the food from the fields, so they go to look for food in dugouts, warehouses, etc.
“Water on the front line is imported everywhere and is used only for drinking. The guys wash themselves with wet wipes brought by volunteers. So, if after eating before going to bed you don’t thoroughly dry your hands, in the morning they may be scratched or even bitten by mice,” says Misyagin.
Lugansk biologist Sergei Fomin, who is now serving in the army, wrote on Facebook: “In the Gorlovka area, mice are running over soldiers who are sleeping.”
At the same time, experts note that such a situation can lead to infectious outbreaks in the region.
“It is in the Lugansk and Donetsk regions that there are constant foci of these infections. You can become infected through drinking raw water from open reservoirs, through food to which a sick animal had access, as well as through contact with even a dead rodent,” notes Odessa biologist Dmitry Sokolovsky.
The point is that from those varieties of tularemia bacteria that circulate in Ukraine, the mortality rate is low - less than 1%, however, the course of the disease incapacitates a person for a long time - a temperature of 38-40 ° C lasts from 2 to 4 weeks, is accompanied by pain, enlarged lymph nodes.
As for leptospirosis, the course of the disease is more severe and the mortality rate is higher - in severe cases, the mortality rate reaches 30-35%. The bacterium causes intoxication that affects the kidneys, liver, cardiovascular and nervous systems. Even skin lesions invisible to the eye are sufficient for transmission of Leptospira.
“Therefore, it is urgent to conduct safety training among fighters, while simultaneously examining mouse populations - or active foci of infections,” says Sokolovsky.
