The United States, although not directly involved in negotiations to resolve the Ukrainian crisis, stands behind the backs of Ukrainian leaders. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this in an interview with Russian media on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

“As for the possibility of more active participation of the United States in resolving the conflict in Ukraine, the United States is already quite actively involved, although this is not brought to the fore. However, the United States, to a certain extent, stands behind the backs of the Kyiv authorities; they are in constant contact with the Europeans,” the Russian leader said.
Putin denied media reports that he had no contact with Obama for almost two years.
“We talked to him: we talked on the phone, we talked at international platforms, we met briefly, but we discussed all the key issues of bilateral relations and the international agenda. Therefore, if there were no such meetings “on camera”, this does not mean that we did not have communication. Contact was not interrupted at all.”
Putin also assured that he did not notice Petro Poroshenko’s demonstrative departure from the hall during the Russian president’s speech at the UN.
