Putin named the conditions for Ukraine's accession to NATO
Russia respects the will of the Ukrainian people on the issue of joining military blocs, but will object to the deployment of certain military facilities on Ukrainian territory.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this in an interview with the Austrian television and radio company ORF, the text of which is published by the official website of the Kremlin.
“As for the neutral status, these are issues that must be determined by the Ukrainian people themselves and the Ukrainian leadership. For us, for Russia, this is important from the point of view that no military installations appear on the territory of Ukraine that would threaten our security. For example, new missile defense systems that would try to stop our nuclear potential. Yes, this is important for us, I don’t hide it. But ultimately, this is the choice of the Ukrainian people themselves and the legitimately elected authorities,” Putin said.
