Russia will not politicize the problem of gas transit to Europe. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this today following negotiations with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

“We do not set ourselves any political goals regarding transit through Ukraine. If it is economically feasible, if it is reliable, then we do not rule out the continuation of some volume of transit through Ukraine,” Putin said.
He also stated that Russia is ready to return to the South Stream gas pipeline project.
“We are not going to be offended by Bulgaria or other countries because they did not find the courage to resist the decisions of the European Commission in due time. We are ready to return to this, but we need guarantees. Our companies will not bear losses for uncalculated decisions. If we follow this path, including in dialogue with Brussels, then everyone will be happy,” Putin said.
