Putin did not rule out that the yuan will become a new reserve currency
Russia will not give up the dollar. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this today at a press conference in South Africa.
“The dollar is a universal reserve currency. More or less, the euro can lay claim to this, but even then not in full. Therefore, we are well aware of what the dollar represents today,” Putin said.
However, he did not rule out the emergence of a new reserve currency.
“We see what is happening with these sanctions, with illegal restrictions, we are aware of these risks and are trying to minimize them. Many countries in the world are now talking about the need to create new reserve currencies. It’s difficult to say now what kind of currencies these might be, but the yuan, of course, is acquiring such qualities,” Putin said.
