Ukraine will have to fight in Donbass for a very long time, since the Russian Federation will not make concessions.
Deputy General Director of the pro-Mejlis TV channel ATR Aider Mudzhabayev stated this in an interview with the Kyiv online publication “Apostrophe”, answering the question when the war in Donbass will end.
He believes that the war can only end when current Russia ends.
“Putin will not give up even an inch of land, he will not allow any observers in, he will conduct these negotiations endlessly, offering conditions that Ukraine will never agree to under this government. He expects that a softer government will come, with which it will be possible to agree on some pseudo-peacekeepers, that is, not to give up the border, but to imitate it, Ukraine will nod, sanctions will begin to be lifted - and this will be Transnistria forever,” the publication’s interlocutor said.
At the same time, he added that Putin does not have a single reason to retreat, but he has the support of the population and the necessary resources.
“And when high-ranking people from the Presidential Administration told me that we would return Donbass before the end of Poroshenko’s term, I told them: “Did you ask Putin at all? You are doing a great job: the West is not against it, and you are for it, and logically this is how it should be. But there is one person you forgot to ask.” This man occupied part of our country. He will never agree to any concessions under the current status quo.
I will say more: while he is in power, he will not agree to anything. This means losing a stone axe. This means, in the eyes of the residents of the Russian community, to lose holiness and power, to throw away the magic sword and instead sit with a lightly salted cucumber. That's not how they rule. He won't give up. Russians have a different mentality. Therefore, we will have to fight for a long time,” Mujabaev said.
