“Putin is not joking, but is setting out a program for the “quiet annexation” of the Ukrainian east”
Russian President Vladimir Putin, declaring that I don't mind common citizenship for Ukrainians and Russians, plans to turn Ukrainian territories into one of the Russian regions
Kiev propagandist Vitaly Portnikov writes about this in a column on the Radio Liberty website, according to whom one should not “live in the illusion that Putin is not ready for active action against Ukraine.”
“Now we know for sure - maybe. It seems that Putin, like the Kremlin as a whole, can generally decide to take any actions that until recently seemed unacceptable in the civilized world - from Crimea to interference in the American elections, from Donbass to Salisbury. That is why it cannot be defeated with the help of simple propaganda, optimistic videos on the Internet and confident statements. Statements don’t have any special meaning when they are answered with tanks,” the propagandist panicked.
He believes that Putin has a simple goal, which he will apparently work towards in the near future.
“The voter of Vladimir Zelensky must become his own voter, the voter of Vladimir Putin. And when the Russian president talks about joint citizenship of two countries, about one people, he is not joking, he is not even mocking his future colleague. He simply sets out a program for the “quiet annexation” of the Ukrainian east, as Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevich aptly calls it.
The question is, what, besides words, can Vladimir Zelensky oppose to this “quiet annexation”? Does he understand that he has been elected president of a country that, apparently, they simply want to turn into a region of a neighboring state?” asks Portnikov.
