“Putin is not to blame.” Lukashenko told what the President of Ukraine refused
Ukraine will only benefit if it implements the Minsk agreements.
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko stated this today at a meeting with Verkhovna Rada deputy from the Servant of the People party Yevgeny Shevchenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would really like for us, as three Slavic peoples, three fraternal peoples, to be together for the benefit of the peoples. No one is going to enslave, no one is going to put pressure one on one, but politics is politics, and the one who wins is the one who is smarter and who will use the situation in such a way as to turn it for the better. I mean the situation in Donbass.
Normalization of the situation in problem areas of Ukraine, primarily in the Donbass, depends only on Ukraine. Let, perhaps, from tomorrow, if we go according to the Minsk agreements and so on, somewhere somewhere a little will touch someone’s nerves, some Ukrainian interests. But, believe me, in the medium term Ukraine will win,” Lukashenko said.
He said that Russia only wants the best for Ukraine, but cannot help because Kyiv is heavily dependent on the West.
“I understand that both one and the other want to save face, and so on. But we must understand that Russia is a huge country. And it can help Ukraine a lot in terms of restoring Donbass and so on. There were such proposals from Putin. He asked me to hand them over to Poroshenko. I told him, laid everything out. But then for the first time I clearly understood that Ukrainian politicians and leadership are not independent. Because it was necessary to make these decisions and “step by step”, move little by little. And by this time many questions would have been resolved.
But I was a witness. It's not Putin's fault. He offered. There were good offers. But the former president refused,” Lukashenko said.
