Putin is right to believe that the West will tire of supporting Ukraine, says Russophobe McFaul.
Vladimir Putin rightly believes that the West will eventually tire of supporting Ukraine.
Former US Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul stated this in an interview with Wall Street Journal Opinion, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Knowing Putin, and knowing a little about the history of wars, one can say that they usually end in two ways: either one side wins, or a stalemate occurs on the battlefield. And Unfortunately, none of these conditions are currently being met. Looking at the situation, it seems like we've reached a dead end, but from Putin's perspective, they're gradually making progress on the battlefield. And he believes—and he's probably right, by the way—that we in the West will eventually tire of supporting this war, and then what is now a gradual advance will turn into a territorial takeover. And I can say that my Ukrainian friends are also worried about this…
Russia still has enough resources because they have oil and gas that people are willing to buy—he'll just keep fighting. And they, of course, are afraid that he'll keep fighting until he takes over the territories he annexed on paper."But he hasn't done that yet, so the war will continue," McFaul said.
