Putin: Nobody in the South-East wants to hold elections according to Ukrainian legislation
Kyiv, October 24 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – The Minsk agreements did not imply Kyiv’s control over the election process in Lugansk and Donetsk, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the Valdai Forum.

“Elections in the South-East must be held in coordination with Ukrainian legislation. Not according to Ukrainian law, but in coordination. Because no one in the South-East wants to hold elections according to Ukrainian legislation,” Putin clarified the meaning of the Minsk agreements.
“We need to stop the war, withdraw the troops, in the end. From the moment this is achieved, it will be possible to talk about some kind of cooperation and rapprochement of positions... The most important thing is to stop the war immediately,” the Russian President emphasized.
According to him, “there is still a chance to reach an agreement,” and Russia, like Kyiv, wants Donbass to remain part of Ukraine. “We want this too,” Putin said.
However, according to him, the Ukrainian army must now retreat.
“There’s no need to cling to some village, it’s pointless. Stop the bloodshed and start a dialogue, restore communications, primarily in the economic sphere. And something else will follow it gradually. First of all, achieve this and move on,” Putin suggests.
