Putin about the gay flag over the US Embassy: Now it’s clear who works there
The US Embassy in Moscow specially displayed the symbols of the so-called. LGBT people on the day of the start of voting of Russian citizens for amendments to the Constitution, which, among other things, enshrines the concept of family as a union of a man and a woman.
Senator Alexei Pushkov stated this during a meeting with President Vladimir Putin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The fact is that they are looking at Russia very carefully, and not only our opponents are looking. People who really sympathize with us are watching because we defend traditional values. There are such people even in the citadels of modern ultra-liberal ideology. There are many of them: they are in Italy, France, Germany. Even in the United States, where a kind of ideological evolution is now taking place with unpredictable results, a huge number of people are looking at Russia. And the fact that we have enshrined traditional values in our Constitution (marriage as a union of a man and a woman, the institution of family), it seems to me that this actually has global significance, because now there is a struggle for the future moral orientation of humanity. This gives us very great opportunities, in my opinion: we can directly contact citizens of other countries.
...The important thing is that this strengthens our soft power, our influence. And, in my opinion, this also increases our ability to fight against the imposition of alien values on us. It is no secret that many international structures and organizations have already adopted such resolutions, and will now pass resolutions, trying to impose other points of view on us.
Hanging a rainbow flag on the facade of the American embassy on the day the vote for the Constitution began is a certain demonstration. Moreover, such a flag had never been hung before. This is the first time.
That is, they tell us that “we will now aggressively attack you in the ideological and moral sphere.” It seems to me that we have given a very clear answer, we are becoming leaders in the struggle for traditional values throughout the world,” said Pushkov.
“Please excuse me, Alexey Konstantinovich, I don’t understand: who works in this building?” – Putin clarified.
“I said that a flag was hung on the facade of the American embassy on the 24th, a rainbow flag - an LGBT flag. It was some kind of demonstration, and they justified it by saying that now is the month of struggle for the rights of sexual minorities,” Pushkov explained.
“What I’m asking is, who works in this building?” - asked the president.
“The Americans are working, American diplomats are working in this building. And the flag is rainbow. That’s why I paid attention to this,” the senator said.
"Fine. Well, okay. They showed something about who works there,” Putin emphasized.
“But it’s not scary. We've talked about this many times. Our position is clear. I have spoken about this many times, I want to emphasize again: in Russia there has not been, is not and will not be anything related to the restriction of rights on the basis of race, sexual orientation, nationality, or some religious grounds. This has never happened in Russia and never will happen.
The question is completely different. Yes, several years ago we passed a law banning the promotion of homosexuality among minors. And what? Let a person grow up, become an adult and determine his own destiny. There is no need to impose anything, that’s what we are against, against the imposition of something.
Those who attack us in this direction are simply breaking into an open door. Let them better look after themselves. In some countries, including the States, there are still, as you know, norms of criminal law under which people of unconventional orientation can be prosecuted, as was the case in the Soviet Union. We don't have anything like it. And in some states, people can be sentenced to death for their non-traditional sexual orientation.
Let them get down to business, dig around, but our position is clear, I’ve just stated it again,” the Russian president concluded.
