Putin recalled the nationalist past of the Medvedchuk family: I would not say that we are very close
Russian President Vladimir Putin said he is “not very close” with Ukrainian politician Viktor Medvedchuk.
The head of state said this in an interview with American director Oliver Stone, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I wouldn’t say that we are very close, but we know each other well. He was the head of the Administration of President Kuchma, and then, in that capacity, he asked me to participate in the baptism of his daughter. We cannot refuse our Orthodox tradition,” Putin said.
“I’ll be honest, we don’t communicate with him that often. He has more free time than me. But we meet from time to time, especially in connection with his work towards the release of detainees. He devotes a lot of time to this,” the Russian president also noted.
“...We have different positions and different points of view in many ways. After all, Mr. Medvedchuk was born into the family of a man who was convicted during the Soviet Union for, as they said, nationalist activities. He was born in Siberia, where his family and father were essentially in exile,” Putin also recalled.
