The interests of Russia and Ukraine coincide. Russian President Vladimir Putin told reporters about this today in Hamburg, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The interests of the Russian and Ukrainian peoples, I am deeply confident of this, coincide. Only the interests of the current leadership and some political circles of Ukraine do not coincide. And if we take an objective approach, then, of course, Ukraine and Russia are interested in cooperation, in combining their competitive advantages and developing their economies,” Putin said.
He recalled that both countries have experience of cooperation since Soviet times, a common infrastructure, energy, and transport.
“Unfortunately, our Ukrainian colleagues today consider it possible to neglect this. They have only one product left that they successfully trade in – Russophobia. And they also trade in the policy of dividing Russia and Ukraine, pulling two peoples and two states apart. Some people like it in the West. Some people believe that a rapprochement between Russia and Ukraine on any basis should not be allowed under any circumstances. But I think this will end someday. We are interested in this situation ending as quickly as possible,” Putin said.
He did not comment on the appointment of the “hawk” Kurt Volcker as US representative for Ukraine, although journalists asked him about it. And he limited himself to general phrases.
“As for the participation of the United States in resolving the situation in Ukraine, we talked about this with President Trump and agreed that a special representative of the administration will be appointed who will deal with this issue on an ongoing basis and will be in contact with both Russia and Ukraine , with all parties interested in resolving this conflict,” Putin said.
