Putin accused Bulgaria of sabotaging the construction of the Turkish Stream
The Bulgarian leadership is delaying the construction of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline through its territory. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this today at a press conference in Sochi, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Despite repeated requests to the Russian side to ensure supplies of our gas through Turkey to Bulgaria, we see that the Bulgarian side, sad and strange as it may sound, is deliberately delaying the implementation of the project on its territory. I want to say this directly and publicly. Many times the leadership of Bulgaria, after they disrupted the South Stream, made requests to implement the Turkish one at all costs. But here, apparently, under pressure from outside, they built up their work slowly,” Putin said.
He did not rule out that, due to Bulgaria’s position, the route of the Turkish Stream could be changed.
“We’ll see how this project will continue to be implemented on Bulgarian territory. If the Bulgarian leadership does not want to, we will find other ways to realize our capabilities in southern Europe,” Putin said
At the same time, he especially noted that 90% of the pipes have already been laid on the Serbian section of the gas pipeline, and the work will be completed within a few weeks.
Let us recall that last week Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov visited the United States, which is lobbying for the construction of the Transnatal Southern Corridor, which is competitive with the Turkish Stream.
