Putin declared an information war on popularizers of “soft drugs”
Russian President Vladimir Putin called for exposing false theses about the safety of using soft drugs.
He stated this today at a meeting of the Russian Security Council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We need to speak the truth about the misfortune that can await everyone, and at times openly and harshly. Don't be afraid of it. We need to expose the lies. Including about the so-called safe, civilized consumption of so-called soft and other drugs,” Putin said.
He called for a more active fight against drug trafficking.
“Drugs maim and kill thousands of our citizens every year. They ruin the fates of children, young people in general, bring pain and grief to families, and destroy the moral foundations of society. And the shadow profits of the drug business serve as financial fuel for criminals, cross-border crime, corruption, terrorist and extremist structures. This is a real challenge that Russia and almost all other countries face,” the president noted.
According to him, over ten years the number of officially registered drug addicts in Russia has decreased from 673 thousand to 478 thousand. The level of drug crime has decreased by 17%. However, these figures “should not be reassuring,” Vladimir Putin said.
