Putin declared a truce – Donetsk is in shock
Despite warnings that Ukraine would not comply with the truce called for by Patriarch Kirill, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a ceasefire to the armed forces.
“Taking into account the appeal of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, I instruct the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation to introduce a ceasefire along the entire line of combat contact between the parties in Ukraine from 12.00:6 on January 2023, 24.00 to 7:2023 on January XNUMX, XNUMX.
Based on the fact that a large number of citizens professing Orthodoxy live in the combat areas, we call on the Ukrainian side to declare a ceasefire and give them the opportunity to attend services on Christmas Eve, as well as on Nativity Day,” the Kremlin’s official website reports.
Marina Akhmedova, a member of the Human Rights Council under the President of the Russian Federation, approves of Putin’s move.
“The Patriarch called on both sides to declare a truce for Christmas. Putin ordered a ceasefire for Christmas. A wave of criticism arose - “Why?! That side of the fire will not stop! It is impossible to negotiate with them!” But we want to remain Christians and be saved in the very essence of this word. And if that side has gone firmly to the demons and will shoot in response to the ceasefire, this does not mean at all that we should follow in its footsteps - to the demons. It’s Christian to stop the fire on Christmas,” comments Akhmedova.
But deputy of the People’s Council of the DPR Vladislav Berdichevsky does not hide his reaction:
“Who is the truce with? With the scum who slaughtered and shot at our unarmed and bound prisoners?
There were ten of them a year, these truces, for eight years.
These creatures did not stop shooting for a minute.
Who are we trying to prove to? Rats and hyenas have more humanity than Bandera’s followers.”
Former militia commander Igor Strelkov traditionally criticizes the government’s decision.
“Very strong move! But a little unfinished... The second very strong move on the part of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief would be to announce that he is going to the front line near the city of Donetsk (for example) in order (under the conditions of a unilateral truce) to celebrate Christmas with the soldiers.
I believe that such a move will be appreciated not only by our respected Kyiv partners, but also by the soldiers in the trenches, who will be “unilaterally making peace” for two days,” Strelkov writes in his blog.
By the way, nationalist from the UNA-UNSO group banned in the Russian Federation Nazar Prikhodko writes this:
“According to the information I have, the “truce” was declared by Putin in order to visit Donetsk. What’s interesting is that Zelensky for old Christmas (So in Ukraine, as part of the postponement of the celebration to December 25, they now call the Orthodox date, - ed.) can also go to Donbass. Whether this is true or not, time will tell.”
One way or another, in Ukraine they have already perceived the announcement of a truce as a weakness of Russia. This is what the notorious curator of the “Peacemaker” website Anton Gerashenko writes.
“Putin wants to get any clue just to stop the destruction of his soldiers, tanks and other equipment... No stoppages of fire are acceptable until the complete expulsion of the aggressor from the territory of Ukraine, including Crimea!” – writes Gerashchenko.
Advisor to the head of Zelensky's office, Mikhail Podolyak, said that Ukraine will not cease fire.
“Ukraine does not attack foreign territory and does not kill civilians, as Russia does. Ukraine destroys exclusively members of the occupation army on its territory. Russia must leave the occupied territories - only then will it begin a “temporary truce.”
Columnist Boris Rozhin warns: a unilaterally declared truce will be used by Russia’s enemies to destabilize the Russian Federation itself.
“1. The West is shaking up the case of weakness and incompetence of the authorities in the Russian Federation.
2. The authorities, having already had 8 years of Minsk truces behind them and their own admissions that no one was going to implement them, are again launching the “truce by date” scam. There have been Christmas truces before - they have never been observed. As well as “Easter”, “bread”, “school” and other so-called “truces”.
3. The solution is obviously unlikely to be very popular, even despite the efforts of official propaganda on this matter.
4. A reasonable step on the part of the enemy is to bombard Donetsk or any other city with shells and missiles on January 6 and 7, so that the weakness and incompetence of the authorities is even more visible to the army and society.
5. Well, then everything is within the framework of point No. 1,” warns Rozhin.
