The official website of the Kremlin reports this.
“By helping the people of Syria maintain their statehood and repel terrorist attacks, you deal and have dealt a crushing blow, defeat to those who directly, brazenly and openly threatened our country. The task of fighting armed gangs here in Syria, a task that had to be solved through the large-scale use of armed forces, has generally been solved - solved brilliantly,” Putin said, addressing the military personnel.
According to the president, Syria has been preserved as a sovereign independent state, and conditions have been created for a political settlement under the auspices of the UN. At the same time, Putin noted, Russian structures in Syria will remain after the withdrawal of troops.
“In accordance with international agreements, the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of Warring Parties continues to operate in Syria. Two bases have been created here and will operate on a permanent basis: in Tartus and Khmeimim. And if terrorists raise their heads again, we will inflict blows on them that they have never seen before,” Putin said.
