Putin has separated the Ukrainian government from the people and is waiting for the moment to destroy it
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he does not yet know what policy to pursue towards Ukraine in order to prevent it from turning into Anti-Russia, and also what Moscow will do in response to the deployment of NATO bases in the “independence”.
He stated this today at the Valdai Club, answering a question from Ukrainian political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I will disappoint you. I do not know the answer to this question. The simplest thing to say is: the Ukrainian people themselves must make a decision, form such bodies of power and administration that would meet their aspirations and expectations. Well, yes, yes. But on the other hand, it exists, I can’t help but say it. They are trying to bring Viktor Medvedchuk to justice for high treason. Did he steal some secrets and secretly pass them on? No - for an open political position aimed at stabilizing the situation in the country and building relations with neighbors, which are extremely important for Ukraine itself.
It is disturbing that these people are not allowed to raise their heads. Some are simply killed on the streets, while others are isolated. One gets the impression that the people of Ukraine will not be allowed to form government bodies that meet their aspirations through legal means. People are afraid to even answer sociological surveys. Because a small group of people who appropriated the laurels of the winners in the struggle for independence governs Ukraine, regardless of the name of the president.
Because leaders came to power relying on the votes of voters in the southeast, and then changed their position to the exact opposite. Because the silent majority voted for them in the hope that their election promises would be fulfilled. But an aggressive nationalist minority suppressed the will to accept the decisions expected by the population of Ukraine. They run the country.
This is a dead end, I don’t understand how to get out of it. Let's see what will happen on the internal political scene of Ukraine in the near future. We, for our part, are doing everything to build these relations, but the threat of becoming Anti-Russia is of significant importance to us. Formal membership in NATO may not take place, but the military development of the territory is already underway. And this really creates a threat for the Russian Federation,” Putin said.
Political scientist Sergei Markov reflected on Putin’s response to Pogrebinsky.
“I believe the conclusion is that he, Putin, knows that he, Putin, will be forced to take decisive steps to remove the security threat to Russia. But Putin does not yet know when these decisive steps will be taken,” Markov commented on the president’s response in his Telegram channel.
