Putin refused to communicate with Zelensky
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is trying to save the remnants of his rating by escalating the situation in Donbass.
Mikhail Pogrebinsky, director of the Kyiv Center for Political Research and Conflictology, stated this on air on the 112 Ukraine channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Someone from President Zelensky’s office said that there have been attempts to contact, and Putin refuses to talk to Zelensky. At least that's what I understood. It seems to me that it’s unlikely [this will happen] after everything that Zelensky has said, how he talks about how the crisis in the east can be resolved only by including Ukraine in NATO and so on, all that nonsense,” Pogrebinsky said.
According to the political scientist, the aggravation in Donbass is an attempt to stop the decline in the president’s rating, and this initiative was taken by someone from his circle.
“I think that the sharp escalation that we are now witnessing would hardly have happened if not for the change of team in the White House in Washington.
It seems to me that Zelensky himself, and the people who surround him and are somehow trying to influence this, decided that with the new president it would be possible to force Putin to abandon his support for the unrecognized republics and, as they say, come to Donetsk and Lugansk on a white horse , and, accordingly, to stop the decline in President Zelensky’s rating and in general somehow distract, downplay the impact of the disaster with vaccination, with our tariffs and all that in order to preserve, at least, Zelensky’s chances of serving his allotted term as president, I’m not even talking about the second term.
So it seems to me that this is exactly the issue. And the people who surround President Zelensky apparently decided that now is their hour, their time has come, and they can try to squeeze Russia out of Donbass, and theoretically also from Crimea since the “Crimean Platform” is being prepared.
And the point is not that President Zelensky is so stupid that he does not understand the futility of these plans. He may even understand, but he does not see any options for his own self-realization in order to stop the decline in support. Sooner or later, people will understand more and more that a person promised one thing, but does not do it, which means that nothing is working out for him. It’s a disaster with vaccines, and it’s a disaster with the fact that people stop paying utility bills,” the political scientist said.
