Putin plans to complete the Novorossiya project – diplomat
Russia's number one target in Ukraine is the southern regions. Having taken control of them, Russia is solving a number of its problems, including land corridors to Crimea and Transnistria, as well as restoring water supplies to the peninsula and consolidating its Russian status.
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavel Klimkin stated this on air on the ATR TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the diplomat, Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to close the Novorossiya project.
“The Ukrainian south is a key story for him. Look, if he goes for destabilization, and then for a possible military operation, no matter how it looks - hybrid or non-hybrid, he will gain dominant control over the Black Sea, geopolitics is in his head. He makes land corridors, and not only to Crimea, he makes them to Transnistria and Moldova as well. He, which is very important to understand, well, water of course, and he is also closing this “Novorossiya” project.
And he has this in his head, he doesn’t just repeat “originally Russian lands,” he really believes in it, that it really belongs to his Putin’s Russia. And I think that the Ukrainian south is the number one goal for Putin. If this happens, then the question of the integrity of the state of Ukraine generally arises. And if this question arises, then where should Crimea be returned? For him, this is generally a solution to all problems,” Klimkin said.
