“Vladimir Putin is becoming a nightmare for the European Union. Putin's chosen tactics to penetrate European democracies, his undeniable diplomatic and military successes, have blown up the established world order. Moscow is winning the so-called hybrid war, the publication notes. – In February 2014, when the crisis in Ukraine led to the flight of then-President Viktor Yanukovych from the country, no one would have bet a penny on the future fate of Vladimir Putin.
The Europeans bear full responsibility for the conflict that broke out in Ukraine. With their constant provocative actions, European leaders pushed the Kremlin towards the annexation of Crimea. As revenge, the West imposed severe economic sanctions against Russia. They tried to make Putin into a marginal leader, rejected by the international community,” the publication notes.
At the same time, the publication points out that the attempt to turn the Russian leader into an outcast ended in failure.
“Three years later, the President of the Russian Federation changed the situation in the world. Step by step, he won almost all the diplomatic battles by adopting a strategy that today has made him a major political player on the international stage. Putin won his last victory in Syria. From the very beginning of the conflict in Syria, Putin opposed Western attempts to remove Syrian President Bashar al-Assad from power by any means. The Russian leader blocked resolutions at the UN that did not suit him. At the same time, Putin sent Russian aviation and military specialists to Syria, thanks to whom it was possible to liberate Aleppo and keep Assad in power.
The victory of Donald Trump in the presidential elections in the United States, who sympathizes with Vladimir Putin, as well as the right-wing candidate of France in the 2017 elections, demonstrated to the whole world the influence of the Russian Federation on world politics. Tsar Putin managed to suppress the uprising in Chechnya, won in Syria, annexed Crimea, provided military assistance to Ukrainian separatists in Donbass, and defended South Ossetia from Georgia. He also managed to destabilize European democratic institutions from within through financial support of political parties and right-wing ideological movements,” the newspaper admits.
The publication also says that today the Russian president has become “one of the most significant political figures of the XNUMXst century,” and his supporters in the West “see in him a leader who could lead the anti-globalization movement.”
“Cyber warfare, political propaganda, disinformation are just some of the tools that Putin is actively using to achieve diplomatic and military victories. In the hybrid war, as in the real one - in Syria - the Russian president emerged victorious. Putin managed to take advantage of the weaknesses and mistakes of the European Union to achieve victory,” Pagina 12 summarizes.
