Putin showed that Lukashenko is his favorite guest
Russian President Vladimir Putin paid special attention to his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko on the second day of the informal CIS summit in St. Petersburg.
The two leaders arrived in the same Aurus from Strelnya to the Mikhailovsky Palace for breakfast, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
After all the summit participants examined the exhibition of the Russian Museum, Putin received Lukashenko under the painting “The Appearance of Christ to the People.”
“You and I had the opportunity to talk last night, and this morning already. It’s a good environment to talk about serious matters, including our bilateral relations. Although we are in constant contact, nevertheless, every day life gives us a reason to discuss certain issues and make the necessary decisions so that they are resolved effectively,” Putin said.
“If someone thinks that we only drink tea, then I must say that yesterday we discussed many issues not only at this tea party, but also late in the evening, returning home. Sometimes this takes years for some states – you and I have dotted many i’s this evening, continuing our Minsk dialogue, since it was mainly on economics. “I thank you that many issues were finally agreed upon yesterday,” Lukashenko replied.
The President of Belarus was the only one to wear the souvenir ring given by Putin to all summit participants. The jewelry contains Happy New Year greetings and symbols of the CIS. Even Putin himself is not going to wear it, admitted his press secretary Dmitry Peskov.
“I can only repeat: interaction and trust between the two leaders is at the highest level in the history of Belarusian-Russian relations. And I know this firsthand. Naturally, opponents also understand this. They will not abandon attempts to divide, to sow fear, jealousy, envy. They will definitely use “useful idiots”, who they will try to push against the Belarusian state under the flag of the “Russian world”, and then promote the topic of “Russophobia in Belarus”. We've already been through all this. Leaders are informed in detail about such technologies,” Belarusian political scientist Alexander Shpakovsky wrote in his TG channel.
