Putin promised Belarus support in the face of “unprecedented pressure” from the West
Russia and Belarus are not only consistently deepening multifaceted bilateral ties, but also purposefully implementing the Treaty on the Establishment of the Union State.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this today at the plenary meeting of the VII Forum of Regions of Russia and Belarus, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“And now, taking into account the difficult situation in which the Republic of Belarus finds itself, including in the conditions of unprecedented external pressure after the presidential elections, I would like to repeat once again: relations between Russia and Belarus are not subject to either time or conjuncture, they are based on a solid foundation, because our states are united by strong cultural and spiritual ties rooted in centuries, extensive kinship and family ties, and a common joint history,” Putin said.
He recalled that mutual trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $35,5 billion last year. More than two thousand companies with Russian participation operate in Belarus. Russia is the main investor in the Belarusian economy: Russian companies account for almost half of all foreign direct investment in Belarus.
