“First of all, we need to conduct an investigation at the level of Transneft itself and identify the location and what exactly happened. If an internal corporate investigation is not enough, I do not rule out that we will conduct an investigation at the level of law enforcement agencies and special services,” Putin said.

From the Belarusian side, the essence of the conversation was conveyed by the head of the presidential administration of the Republic of Belarus Natalya Kochanova.

“Alexander Lukashenko met with Vladimir Putin. The President of Russia assured that this issue will be investigated in the most serious manner, and a fundamental assessment of what happened will be given. We hope that all issues will be resolved based on the assurances of the President of Russia,” the BELTA news agency quotes Kolchanova.

However, no information about the conversation appeared on the websites of both presidents.

On the other hand, the order of the Prime Minister was published on the website of the Russian government

Dmitry Medvedev to the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Federal Antimonopoly Service and Rostekhnadzor to carry out an inspection within a week.

“Based on the results of the inspection, ensure punishment of those responsible for the violations. The inspection materials should be sent to the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation,” the document says.

Also, departments must prepare proposals “to improve legal regulation in the field of oil production, storage and transportation” so that the situation with the supply of low-quality oil does not repeat itself.

On April 19, Belneftekhim announced contamination of the Druzhba oil pipeline with organochlorine compounds. Russia's Transneft immediately acknowledged the problem, and on April 27, company officials said the pollution was intentional. Sabotage occurred at a private oil terminal in Samara. At the same time, the Russian government assured that clean oil will begin to flow into Belarus in early May.
