Putin instructed Russian geographers to create a new world atlas
The Russian Federation plans to create a new geographical atlas of the world under the control of the Russian Ministry of Defense, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Russian President Vladimir Putin gave the corresponding instructions to Rosreestr and the Russian Geographical Society.
According to him, the Ministry of Defense must ensure the availability of its cartographic materials for the compilers of the atlas, as well as for travelers, tourists, car enthusiasts, including “in the format of modern computer technologies,” online.
He added that Russia is not going to “impose anything on anyone,” but at the same time is not ready to “connive in the distortion of historical geographical data.”
Vladimir Putin complained that Russian-language place names are being removed from world maps, in particular because there are no modern Russian maps in the public domain.
