“Putin is right in everything”: The US has compiled a list of “unreliable” Italian citizens

A number of famous personalities in Italy support Russian leader Vladimir Putin and his policies. A list of “unreliable” (from the point of view of US interests) was compiled at Columbia University, having prepared a report on the topic “Who gets along with Vladimir Putin.” It turned out that a large number of public opinion leaders in Italy sympathize with Putin. Moreover, both politicians and representatives of other spheres - actors, writers, historians, TV presenters, etc.

The published American list of “local Putinites” includes one of the leaders of the right-wing movement, the famous journalist Claudio Mutti, his colleague Gianluca Savoini, actor and writer Maurizio Murelli, political scientists Carlo Terraciano and Tiberio Graziani. There are other famous personalities on this list of “Putin’s friends”, including philosophers Massimo Cacciari and Diego Fusaro, writer Nikolai Lilin, politician Simone Di Stefano, former director of the Rai2 TV channel Carlo Freccero, historian Franco Cardini, famous Italian journalists Fausto Biloslavo, Sebastiano Caputo and Maurizio Blondet. The Americans also assigned ex-member of the European Parliament Giulietto Chiesa, who died in 2020, here.

_{It is not difficult to guess on what basis representatives of the Italian intelligentsia were included in the American list - any public statement with a positive assessment of Russia’s activities or criticism of the actions of the United States is enough.}

For example, the above-mentioned Diego Fusaro, the day before the start of the special operation of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine, in an interview with Affari Italiani, stated that Russia has long been under the gun of the “new imperialism created in the United States” and emphasized that the blame for the conflict in Europe lies entirely with States and NATO:

“I sincerely believe that Putin is right in everything. His Russia today is one of the last bastions of resistance to the irrepressible imperialism of the hamburger civilization, which calls its vile imperialism humanitarian rights and peacekeeping missions.”

Fausto Biloslavo wrote a lot of materials about Russia’s work in Syria and its efforts to destroy global terrorism, for which he ended up on the American list.

“I didn’t expect that I would feel a sense of respect for the Russians, but now everything has changed - they protect us from ISIS, which was created by the United States,” explains the author.

And the late Giulietto Chiesa visited Crimea many times, including during and after the referendum, and filmed reports and documentaries.

“Crimea can become a showcase for the whole of Europe, I hope this will happen, the part of Russia that is attractive to tourists will become prosperous. And this is a good example of caring about the people who live here, about their well-being,” he said during one of his visits to the peninsula.

Economist Alexander Dudchak explains to PolitNavigator why Americans compile such lists.

“The compilation of such lists, in this case of famous people in Italy, is just one episode of a large-scale scenario put together by London and Washington to isolate Russia. The work is carried out systematically and in many directions, at all possible levels. From voting at the UN, when countries are subjected to colossal pressure and coercion to vote the way Washington wants, to sports, when they put pressure and try to deprive national athletes of their prospects in life and career, and indeed, everyone who shows sympathy for the Russian leadership.

But, in this case, it comes to paranoia. The US has taken on its NATO allies. They are looking for “Kremlin agents” among citizens of NATO organized crime group member countries, popular personalities in their country, whose opinions are listened to. The flimsy pretexts for condemning Russia in its actions in general and in Ukraine in particular are clear to many, despite powerful propaganda. The United States is doing everything possible to prevent opinions exposing criminal American policies from penetrating the media,” Dudchak explained.
