He said this in an interview with the Indian news agency IANS, which publishes the Kremlin’s official website.
“We also put forward the idea of combining the construction of the Eurasian Economic Union and the Silk Road Economic Belt. In the future, this process could serve as the basis for the formation of a large Eurasian partnership with the participation of a wide range of countries belonging to the Eurasian Economic Union, SCO and ASEAN. The cooperation potential of the BRICS countries can also be used to implement this initiative,” Putin said.
He expressed confidence that this topic will be continued in Goa at the meeting of the leaders of the BRICS countries.
Let us recall that the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) includes Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) includes China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. On July 10, 2015, the start of the procedure for India and Pakistan to join the SCO was announced.
