Vladimir Putin announced this today at a meeting of the Council for Strategic Development and Priority Projects.

“We have repeatedly discussed, just now we spoke with Dmitry Anatolyevich about this, about the need for a certain period, say two years, to generally exempt the self-employed from paying taxes and mandatory contributions so that they can calmly enter the normal rhythm of legal work and so that it would not be burdensome for them,” the Kremlin’s official website quotes Putin as saying.

The President of the Russian Federation believes that there are millions of such people in the country.

“People are simply forced to remain in the shadows so as not to have to deal with bureaucracy, extortion, constant checks, and workloads that may be excessive for this type of activity. I believe that self-employed citizens need to be offered a clear and convenient tool for interacting with the state, so that they can calmly, so to speak, run and develop their own business, albeit small, but their own, and earn honestly thanks to their work and abilities,” Putin said.
