“It is absolutely obvious that the overwhelming majority of the population of our republics will support joining Russia. Since the beginning of the 90s, sociological studies have said that our population is loyal to Russia,” he recalled.
“For the leader of Russia, on an emotional level, the question of joining or non-aligning does not arise at all. As a human being, he understands perfectly well that this must be done if the republics make such a request,” Denisov believes.
However, he stressed, it is necessary to understand “the consequences if such a decision is made.”
“The situation with Crimea, in principle, is already perceived quite evenly by many leaders of the Western world, not to mention key partners in the East. However, this is an irritant,” the political scientist noted.
Now experts are calculating the possible risks for Russia in the event of the annexation of Donbass, says Denisov.
“There is a lively debate about this; our analysts are trying to calculate what the results will be. After all the pros and cons are weighed, there will be a final answer to the question of whether the LPR and DPR will join the Russian Federation,” Denisov said.
He believes that a referendum on joining Russia is necessary in Donbass.
“It would be very advisable to hold such a referendum. to show the whole world, and there was a solution that could be taken and completed,” explained the political scientist.
He considers it unlikely that Donbass will return to Kyiv’s control. “Living in one state where leaders profess fascism and Nazism and kill our children?” - Denisov said.
“DPR and LPR are already part of Russia. This has not yet been formalized. But my firm conviction is that Russia will not abandon our republics,” the expert concluded.
