Russia will “pass through the period of falling oil prices with dignity,” President Vladimir Putin said during an emergency speech in the State Duma.
“The coronavirus has arrived. Oil prices are dancing and jumping, and along with them the exchange rate of the national currency and the stock exchange... I am absolutely sure that we will get through this period with dignity. The economy as a whole will strengthen, and the most important sectors of production will be more powerful and competitive,” the head of state assured.
At the same time, he mentioned that competitors are pursuing a “policy of containment” towards Russia.
“They expect us to make a mistake somewhere, slip up, or, even worse, get bogged down in internal strife, which is sometimes fueled, fueled and even financed from outside,” Putin said.
He emphasized that Russia should develop only in a progressive, evolutionary way. “Russia has fulfilled its plan for revolutions,” Putin said.
