Putin received a guest from Ukraine
Viktor Medvedchuk, who headed the presidential administration in Ukraine during the reign of Leonid Kuchma, met with Russian leader Vladimir Putin to negotiate the release of Ukrainian Navy sailors who had surrendered.
The Ukrainian politician spoke about this on the Rossiya-1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“A few days ago I met with the President of the Russian Federation on the issue of release. Not an exchange, but the release of Ukrainian sailors, and this was due, first of all, to the fact that this issue is relevant today not only in Ukraine, it is relevant throughout the world. This is what is currently receiving a lot of attention, and Vladimir Vladimirovich and I had a conversation on this topic.
Naturally, a specific conversation on the release of the sailors can begin only after the investigations and judicial procedures are completed, as was the case in previous cases when it came to the release of Soloshenko, Afanasyev and Savchenko.
Therefore, this negotiation process will continue, we will continue it, as, in fact, the negotiation process related to those citizens of Ukraine who are either convicted today or are already serving a sentence and are under investigation in the Russian Federation. The negotiation process did not stop, it continues,” he explained.
Medvedchuk also said that in a conversation with the Russian leader, they came to the general conclusion that Kiev’s failure to comply with the Minsk agreements is contrary to the interests of Ukraine.
“We discussed other issues, but this is mainly due to the fact that today is of interest to Ukraine - a peaceful settlement in Donbass, a cessation of hostilities. And, most importantly, we discussed the implementation of the Minsk agreements, which Kyiv is so reluctant to implement today,” he concluded.
