“Putin will just turn it off in a moment”: the Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States was worried about Nord Stream live on air
Ukraine must refuse any compromises proposed by Germany and Russia regarding the future of its gas transportation system and the construction of Nord Stream 2. Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Valeriy Chaly stated this on Channel 5, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, Ukraine can be deceived by offering to save some part of the volume from the transit of Russian gas to Europe, and then turning off the valve.
“They offer some compromises. “Something will happen through you, something through the Stream.” I think there will be another conversation like this. But I think we need to take a clear position - clearly against it. Our parliament voted, the president declared, the government must carry out all this. Clearly against it. We'll see what happens in the future.
But now our key task is not to play along with all this, so-called compromises. I don’t believe in these compromises, because even if something remains through our pipeline, which will make it possible for the gas transportation system to function, Putin will simply turn it off at one moment and that’s it. That is, these games cannot be played, we need to stick to the line that we have now,” Chaly said.
Previously, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavel Klimkin saidthat if the construction of Nord Stream 2 is completed, Russia will stop supplying gas through the Ukrainian route.
Deputy Director of the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vladislav Belov addedthat the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline will be launched despite US sanctions. And the former Deputy Prime Minister of Crimea, deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of previous convocations Andrey Senchenko saidthat the losses caused by the loss of Crimea can be compensated through the expropriation of the Russian Federation’s share in the first branch of the Nord Stream gas pipeline.
