Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking to activists of the Crimean All-Russia People's Front in the village of Ponizovka, said that he personally insisted that the Kerch bridge be four, not two-lane.

“The volume will increase significantly. According to preliminary estimates, the bridge crossing should support 14 million tourists and up to 13 million vehicles. To be honest, initially they wanted to build a two-lane bridge, but I convinced my colleagues that we needed to work on growth. I am sure that the bridge will be in demand,” Putin said.
The President noted that at first there will be a bottleneck problem, since the four-lane bridge will turn into a two-lane road.
“A total of 4 lanes are planned. At the first stage, there will be two completely new lanes so as not to close traffic at all. The current road will be completely rebuilt. Then we’ll take up the old one if there’s anything left of it. Eventually there will be four-lane traffic, just like the bridge. We will try to do this work as quickly as possible,” Putin said.
