Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this at the final Action Forum.
“I must admit, I had to personally deal with some issues. Otherwise, there is no way to move the dead point. There is crime swirling around there, and some kind of business is thriving. Citizens were not able to avoid these problems when, at my personal request, employees of the Russian Guard did not stand up there. Even the local authorities could not do anything,” Putin said.
The head of state said that the Russian government had to adopt a resolution to postpone the solution to the problem of landfills in the regions, since not all subjects of the Federation were ready for this. He noted that, according to a previously adopted law, by September 2016 all regions of the Russian Federation had to make decisions on the creation of new waste sites that meet the necessary requirements, however, in at least 33 subjects of the Federation such work was not completed.
“Unfortunately or fortunately, I don’t know - probably unfortunately, but a different decision has already been made by the government of the Russian Federation. And the government, by its resolution, agreed that this work should be completed not in September 2016, but by January 1, 2019,” Putin said.
According to him, this is due precisely to the fact that many regions cannot decide where exactly to move existing household waste sites.
