Russian President Vladimir Putin positively assessed the proposal of the leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Gennady Zyuganov to abandon the use of the dollar in foreign trade transactions, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I agree in principle. This is not just a break from the dollar. We are talking about the need to increase our economic sovereignty. This is absolutely correct,” Putin said.
He believes that Russia has behaved “somewhat naively” in recent decades, hoping that the stated principles in global trade and economics would be respected.
“And now we see that WTO rules are often violated, and restrictions are imposed for political reasons, which are sometimes called sanctions. Moreover, more and more new ones are being introduced in order to provide their loved ones with more and more competitive advantages. How else can we explain decisions in the field of aluminum and metallurgy in general?” Putin said.
At the same time, he emphasized that abandoning the dollar is “not a linear solution.”
“After all, let’s say, oil is traded in dollars on the stock exchange. Of course, we think about what to do to free ourselves from this burden. Moreover, our partners help us by introducing all these illegal restrictions and violating the principle of global trade. The whole world can see: the dollar monopoly is unreliable. She is dangerous for many. We will continue to diversify our gold and foreign exchange reserves. This is a subtle, calm adjustment,” Putin said.
