Putin spoke about Russia's readiness for the second wave of coronavirus
The Russian leadership worked in a timely and targeted manner against the challenges that the pandemic brought to the country, and managed to overcome the peak of the epidemic with a relatively small blow to the economy.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this to the Rossiya 1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are talking about the development of the epidemiological situation, experts propose this terminology [and not the “second wave of coronavirus” in European countries]. It is clear why, it lies on the surface - the holiday season, a large number of people, crowds of people.
Of course, this individualism, this reluctance to take into account the overwhelming majority of members of society leads to the fact that we are seeing an outbreak of diseases in some countries, a recurring situation...
In terms of the number of sick people (there are quite a lot of them), we have one of the lowest mortality rates in the world. This is nothing more than a manifestation of the readiness of our healthcare system, the ability to mobilize and the timeliness of decisions taken to stop threats,” Putin said.
“It is already clear that in eight regions of the Russian Federation, population immunity has exceeded 25 percent. In general, this suggests that if we proceed gently and do not allow outbreaks of diseases, there will be an increase, but in the end the situation will stabilize completely,” the president said.
He added that the vaccine developed by Russian specialists forms stable immunity.
“Antibodies appear, just like my daughter, and she is harmless... I just talked to her on the phone, she feels good, thank God, everything is fine,” Putin noted.
“Research will continue, but everything is happening within the framework of Russian law, which is fully consistent with international practices. We will have another vaccine in September, if this drug we are talking about was researched and registered by the Gamaleya Institute, then the second drug will be ready, as they report to me, in September, and the famous Vector Institute, Novosibirsk, is working on it. I am sure that Vector’s specialists will make a wonderful drug that will help people,” said the Russian leader.
Continuing the theme of the pandemic, he noted that the entire world economy is faced with consequences on a wide scale.
“If we remember the crisis of 2008-2009, the drop in global GDP was 0,1%, this time, according to experts from the IMF, the World Bank, and other organizations, it will be somewhere around 5%, that is, the difference is colossal.
Many compare it to the Great Depression of the 30s or even the post-war years. We predict 8,5%, but our experts believe that it will be less, around 5-6%. In the USA in the first half of the year it was 9%, in the eurozone minus 5%.
Some experts say that this is a result of the difference in the structure of our economies - apparently, this is partly true. But for the most part, this is still the result of decisions taken by the government. Moreover, targeted and timely,” summed up Vladimir Putin.
