Russian President Vladimir Putin does not believe that Russia should sacrifice itself to reduce “geopolitical tensions.” He stated this today, speaking at a meeting of the Valdai international discussion club.

“If the price for reducing geopolitical tension is our funeral, then this will not suit us, including those who have doubts about the effectiveness of the current government, or those who would like serious changes,” Putin said .
He considers concessions at the expense of Russia's national interests unacceptable.
“It all comes down to this. The United States formulates a position, declares it correct, and the whole discussion comes down to how quickly we agree with this position. Where the United States promises something and does not fulfill it, it pretends that it did not notice and moves on,” Putin said.
He considers it indecent when the United States shifts the blame for what is happening in Syria to the Russian Federation.
